Established on 18 May 1970, National University of Malaysia or UKM has successfully produced intellectuals and scholars who are among the nation’s pride. Starting out with only three faculties, it has since grown into 13 faculties, 13 research institutes of excellence and two commercial entities. In 2018, UKM was at the top in Malaysia’s Top University Under 50 Years Old, and also ranked 12th worldwide.

Research at UKM contributes significantly to the economic and social development through an ecosystem that fosters intellectual discovery, innovation and application of knowledge. Going beyond the conventional lab within a building, UKM established living labs which acts as satellite learning and research centres, strategically located at Tasik Chini, Fraser’s Hill Research Centre and the Marine Ecosystem Research Centre in Mersing, and Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, which has an internationally recognised significant geological heritage.
