The State of Perlis since the last few decades has been trying to become a leading education hub with its main motto “Perlis Negeri Ilmu”. Among others, it aims to attract students and thus become a catalyst for economic development and enhancing social communities. The introduction of the concept of education through institutional endowments and Bayt al-mal (in Islamic concept) identified as a niche that will be a privilege or advantage KUIPs. A concept which will make the institutions more efficient and capable of uplift the local community will be a model of moderate Islam in Malaysia and the world at large.
Therefore, the Perlis Islamic University College (KUIPs) established in the state of Perlis. KUIPs are under the auspices of the Perlis Malay Islamic Tradition and Adat (MAIPs) where His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail is his principal patron. KUIPs offers a unique program of studies and strategy in order to produce knowledgeable, good-willed people and do good deeds. The influx of international students in line with the globalization impacts and providing talent for local and international markets is one of the important reasons supporting the existence of KUIPs. The location of KUIPs in the gold triangle (IMT-GT) is also important to accomplish ASEAN agenda since Tun Abdul Razak’s leadership around the 70s. The region’s population which more than 70 billion are great opportunities that should be utilized to the fullest.
KUIPs will be led by the well-known names in the national education industry, with the experience and determination they had will surely be the key to the success of this institution in a short time. The support of all parties, especially the state government, facilitates all relevant matters. The close relationship with several IPTAs in Perlis has also created healthy competition and complemented each other.
Hopefully that the establishment of the KUIPs will change the landscape of higher education in Malaysia, especially in Perlis. By using all the strengths with supportive environment and ready with all the challenges as well as identifying all the weaknesses, then it is certain that KUIPs can be among the most competitive IPTS in the coming term. The establishment of KUIPs is the first step in creating greater success for this beloved country, nation and religion.
