About Kolej Pengajian Islam Johor

The Islamic education system in the state of Johor began as early as 1923. It has continued to develop until now through the state’s government religious schools. Subsequently, a more systematic religious education system at the primary level was introduced through the establishment of the Sekolah Rendah Agama Bersepadu (SRAB).

Furthermore, religious education at the secondary level was also developed. It can be said that the religious education system in Johor state, both at the primary and secondary levels, has been stable and successful in producing qualified students to continue their studies at higher levels. To accommodate the demand of secondary school graduates to pursue higher education, MARSAH was established as a continuation and complement to the Islamic education system in Johor state.

The early history of Johor Islamic College (MARSAH) as a center for Islamic and Arabic higher education began in 1997 when the Johor Islamic Council (Majlis Agama Islam Johor) decided to further elevate the level of education at Maahad Johor to that of Islamic higher education, with Maahad Johor retaining its position as a high school and MARSAH as an IPT (Institute of Higher Learning).

On June 17, 1997, a memorandum of understanding in the field of academic and cultural cooperation between the Johor Islamic Council (Majlis Agama Islam Johor) and Al-Azhar University was signed to allow this center of higher education to be established to conduct programs and courses from Al-Azhar University’s Faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies at MARSAH.

On November 4, 1997, MARSAH began its course of study in Islamic Shariah with a total of 42 students located in the Maahad Johor building. On July 5, 2000, MARSAH was recognized by Al-Azhar University for the study of Islamic Shariah and Usuluddin Diploma programs.
